The HST committee was formed by the Toronto Musicians’ Association in September of 2009.  Our mandate has been to help recognize the unfair situation facing certain musicians due to the existing flaws in the rules governing collection of the GST and to come up with a realistic plan to rectify the situation.  We have heard from a considerable number of musicians who are unable to participate equally in their chosen profession due to the Small Supplier Threshold.

We believe there is a fair solution that will stop the  practice of both GST-registered and non GST-registered musicians having to pay the tax ‘out of pocket’ as the only means to continue working together in certain situations.
